Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most common problem treated by podiatrist?
Podiatrists are experts at the management of foot and ankle conditions. The most common condition treated by podiatrist is heel pain. Heel pain can be caused by a variety of conditions including plantar fasciitis or achilles pain.
Podiatry treatment for heel pain includes a range of treatments including massage and stretches. Footwear and biomechanics is important in the long term prevention of heel pain – advice regarding appropriate footwear and in some cases orthotic devices can benefit.
What do I need to bring to my podiatry appointment?
If you have a referral or investigations such as X-rays or ultrasounds, this can assist your podiatrist.
For conditions that may be related to biomechanics or sporting related injuries, it can be beneficial to bring common footwear that you would utilise. This will allow your podiatrist to complete a thorough biomechanics assessment.
Can I claim my podiatry appointment on Private Health insurance?
We accept all private health insurance providers at ME Physio. If you have private health insurance with extras, we are able to claim on-the-spot using HICAPs when you bring your card to your appointment. This includes claiming of orthotics if your private health insurance includes orthotics as part of your coverage.
Please note, using HICAPs is only available on the date of service. However, where required, our team will provide you a receipt with all details that will assist in claiming through your private health insurer after the date of service.
What are common foot problems in older adults?
As well as biomechanics and muscular foot and ankle pain, older adults benefit from podiatrist treatment for general foot care.
Common foot conditions that older adults may experience include bunions, corns, calluses, skin conditions, and ingrown or discoloured toe nails. Podiatrists are experts at the management of these conditions.
In addition, regular visits to your podiatrist can maintain your foot health as you get older and reduce the likelihood of a number of these conditions.
